Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at an early rarer Astatic crystal mic from the late 1930’s called the D-2 model that comes with it’s original lower F-11 mount / adapter and a period Atlas DS-6 model microphone desk stand. This beautiful combo will make a very nice display or prop piece just about anywhere it sits. The D-2 model was kind of the smaller earlier version of the very popular D-104 which was made from the 1940’s until present. You can see the obvious differences in design though there are some similarities. The D-2 is a slimmer more elegant design than the D-104. Pic # 2 shows this very model along with a few other older obscure Astatic mics of that time. The D-2 is about half the size of the much larger D-104 and has a more elegant appearance having smooth, soft lines. Very deco in nature and pleasing to the eye. The D-2 has a polished chrome body and as you can see this one is in very nice shape being free of any heavy scratches, dents or corrosion. The lower adapter looks just as nice as does the Astatic badge. Made in Youngstown, OH. These D-2 models have open mesh screens on both the front and rear of the head giving it a lot of character and I believe this was a bi-directional mic. The lower F-11 adapter allows you to screw the mic onto any desk or floor stand though the stand is provided. It has a rear exit for the cable which is just a short 6 inches and has a male 1/4 inch connector. The F-11 shows lite wear in the form of scratches but otherwise quite nice. This crystal mic has been tested and as to be expected of a mic this age…no longer works. The element is still present inside the housing however. The mic itself is a true 8 on a scale of 1 – 10. The D-2 comes with the rare early Atlas DS-6 model microphone desk stand. This is a DS-6 model from the 1940’s and the base is a quality brass cast piece with a polished chrome plate. This stand was only offered by Atlas for a few years before being discontinued so you rarely ever come across these and this one is in good overall shape considering it’s age. The stand thread itself has the 5/8 X 27 universal thread and any mic or mic clip will technically mate to the top of it. This model of of this stand has a unique “banquet” design with heavy deco influence and will compliment any older mic. This particular stand has typical wear as you can see. The base has scuffs, scratches and tiny pitting in the base but the stem actually look very nice. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. All 3 original felt pads will keep the stand from scratching any surface it sits on. Mic with stand is appx 12 inches tall X 6 inches wide. The heavy, wide stance of this stand makes it extremely stable and can be used on small, medium and larger mics. This Astatic / Atlas combo will draw attention anywhere it’s displayed and will only increase in value as the years go by due to it’s rarity and condition.
