A custom-made wristwatch with a Unitas 6498 movement can be a unique and personal piece. The Unitas 6498 is a manual winding, Swiss-made movement known for its reliability and ease of service. This one had no wear. While customization can vary widely, from aesthetic changes like dial and case modifications, to more technical alterations, it’s important to choose a watchmaker who can provide the highest level of service available. Our watchmaster, Theodore Tongson, specializes in high-end watches with Swiss complications. We feel that it’s crucial to consider the reputation and experience of the watchmaker. This Unitas 6498 is a Swiss-made mechanical manual wind movement that has been in production for decades. Originally designed for small hunter pocket watch cases, collectors often referred to it as a “pocket watch movement” until Panerai incorporated it into their wristwatch line. You will find it in many diving models from various manufacturers. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Unitas movements incorporated modern Swiss incabloc shock absorbers adding additional jewels to its original ARSA15 jewel movement and increasing the reliability and competitiveness of the movement. Many brands have used Unitas including American brands Bulova and Hamilton and European flavors from Alpina to Zeno. Unitas merged with ETA and the Swatch Group, Ltd. in 1985. Unitas’ versatility and technical specifications have made it a favorite among watchmakers, from those creating entry-level watches to those crafting high horology pieces. The movement’s expansive landscape of bridges and plates also provide an expressive canvas for artistically inclined watchmakers. In short, the Unitas 6498 provides a highly versatile and reliable movement that has stood the test of time and continues to be a popular choice in the watch industry. The stainless-steel case and bezel are silver in color, while the band is made of black leather. The watch features a 12-hour analog display and is suitable for men. In addition to its elegant design, this wristwatch also has practical features that make it a valuable accessory. This custom-made model uses a vintage design with a white dial color, black Roman numeral markers a 12-hour dial. The watch is ideal for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship and quality materials. The case, dial, hands and band are new. The movement came from a hunter style pocket watch and had little to no wear, yet our master watch maker, Theodore Tongson, restored it and modified it for use in wristwatches similar to the early Panera did. The dial has many similarities with older antique Cartier models that used Roman Numeral dials and simple designs in their vintage timepieces. Unlike their cases, the company used very plains designs in their dials and hands. Whie similar, this is a custom timepiece and not a homage watch since the case does not resemble known French watches.
