You are purchasing one DOWY-13350-AR5 Electronic Flasher Can (Incandescent bulbs only) Replaces: Turn Signal thermal Flasher Can or thermal Emergency Flasher Can Application: 1968 1969 1970 Shelby or Eleanor Mustang The Cougars Unlimited LLC DOWY-13350-AR5 electronic flasher is specifically designed to work with sequencing tail light turn signals. The on time is set to allow all three tail light bulbs to flash before turning off, much slower than a standard flasher can. Also, this flasher is designed to handle the current of all four incandescent bulbs (three rear and one front), standard flasher cans are typically only able to handle the current of two incandescent bulbs. With the exception of an added ground wire, they are made to plug and play into the original mounting and wiring harness. Because this is an electronic flasher the added ground wire must be securely grounded or the flasher will malfunction. Note: Cougars Unlimited LLC Electronic Flasher can application can be confusing. Here is a chart to try and clarify. All Flasher cans built by Cougars Unlimited LLC are Electronic replacing the original thermal cans. The reason for this is applicable vehicles are now over 50 years old the current that sequencing systems draw have greatly increased over time. This is because of the original wiring harnesses and connectors are deteriorating increasing the resistance. Higher the resistance the higher the current draw across the switch. The current is now so high on most vehicles that it exceeds the ratting of the switches, causing them to prematurely fail. The only solution is to convert to LED bulbs, they draw far less current. On vehicles that have converted to LED the turn signal switches are not failing. The only other solution is to replace the complete wiring harness which is expensive, and in most cases not possible. When converting to LED bulbs Cougars Unlimited LLC strongly recommends using WCCC1157RPR (Red for rear) LED bulbs and WCCC1157YPR (Yellow for front) LED bulbs. They have a built in current limiting diode. This stops the reverse current flow that causes sequential turn signal systems to malfunction.
