A look through the photos of this one-of-a-kind piece of art glass doesn’t require much further written descriptionHEAVY (3.5 lbs) Art Glass Bowl with Controlled BubbleMade by Erickson Glass Company in Bremen, Ohio, USA in the 1950s Smoked Green Gray Colored GlassControlled Bubble, Hand-Blown Art Glass Bowl, Ashtray, Trinket Dish, Display Piece, or something else! 3 dimples around the rim, large enough to comfortably set a cigar (if that’s how you choose to use it)No cracks, chips, or other flaws, other than a little wear on the bottom consistent with its ageErickson Glass was renowned for its impeccable craftsmanship, crafted from the finest lead-based blend of silica and potash. Typically, it boasted a substantial, weighty composition. Carl Erickson (1899-1966) applied his artistic talents across a spectrum of forms, sizes, and colors. A distinctive hallmark of his work was the use of bubble designs in the bases, as exemplified in the photograph. While most bases were clear, a few exhibited vibrant hues. Each piece of Erickson glass was meticulously hand-formed, ensuring that no two were identical. Carl Erickson of Bremen, Ohio, received numerous honors for his glass creations, including presentations to dignitaries and custom orders. The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. commissioned him to replicate intricate glass fixtures from antiquated laboratories. The Old Sturbridge Museum in Massachusetts requested reproductions of some of its celebrated glassware pieces. Other prominent museums that sought his replication expertise included the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Ohio State Historical Society Museum. Many of his glass masterpieces found a place in distinguished museum collections. In 1953, a traveling exhibition featuring his glassworks toured throughout Europe and the United States. Despite approaching retirement, Carl Erickson’s unwavering commitment to advancing modern art glass drove him to a resolute decision.
