Product Information BMW E30/E36/E46/Z3 Pair Rear Shock Reinforcement Plates 51 71 8 413 359These are the rear upper shock mount reinforcement plate BMW item number 51718413359 originally designed by BMW for the Z3 cars. However these plates are very popular for track use or extra support for all BMW 3 series E30, E36, E46, and Z3 models. Recommended as extra support when installing heavy duty shocks. BMW MSRP is $22.40 each. Here you get 2 for only $16.50 Sold in sets of 2 X 51 71 8 413 359 Fitment:All 3-series E30 84-92 All 3-series E36 91-99 All 3-series E46 99-06 All Z4 E85 03-08 All Z4 E86 06-08 Tech tip:When replacing rear shock absorbers make certain that you remember to transfer the inverted cup washers from your old shock absorbers over to your new shocks before installing the upper mounts. These cup washers are an important part in the assembly, without them the rubber shock mounts will fail very quickly. The rubber shock mounts are designed to soften the impact of a harsh compression of the shock absorber. When the vehicle experienced an extreme impact such as a pot hole in the road the inverted cup washer bottoms out on the outer rim of the shock mount. This washer disperses the impact that would otherwise tear the center out of the rubber mount. The top of the shock has a similar washer to keep the shock from tearing out when the shock is hyper-extended. Our suggestion when replacing rear shocks is to replace the rear shock mounts at the same time. The old shock mounts will have been stressed having to absorb the amplified road impacts that worn shocks will transmit. A common mistake is to discard the entire used rear assembly assuming that the new rear shocks and shock mounts are all that you will need to create a new assembly. Unfortunately the lower inverted cup washers are not included in the new components that you will purchase. The is a critical piece that is required to complete this project.
