Fore sale is this beautiful and very unusual antique Blue & Off-White Stoneware / Spongeware pitcher with DARK COBALT BLUE sponging. It is a large pitcher with an ovoid shaped base and a uniquely shaped handle. The sponging gives it a folk art appearance. A friendly collector estimates this piece is from the late 1800’s and believes it was made by Cannelton Pottery in Cannelton, IN. It measures approx. 8-1/2” tall to the rim x 7-1/2” dia. at the widest part of the base. This wonderful pitcher is museum quality and you won’t want to miss the opportunity to add it to your rare collection!!! CONDITION: I consider this piece to be near mint “as made” condition. It has a glaze flake approx. 1/2″ wide on the bottom glazed edge and minor glaze roughness on the top, outside edge of the handle. That is it!!! NO CRACKS, HAIRLINE CRACKS, OR REPAIRS. This piece is in AMAZING condition especially considering it’s over 100 years old and was used as a utilitarian piece on a daily basis. It has the usual manufacturing characteristics found on OLD salt glaze stoneware (i.e., pits, pops, glaze skips, rubs, runs, bubbles, glaze separations, staining, crazing, and wrinkles & lines in glaze).
